This app has LOADS of potential. But not worth the time. Apps should make things easier and this is just one more useless piece of electronic trickery that devours your time by trying to make it functional whereas the end result is the equivalent of taking a digital photograph of a printed character sheet. However taking the photo would be much much easier.
The design could be cleaner and would be neat to see the interface look more like the d&d character sheets. I used it for about an hour of a gaming and then gave up. Here is why:
You cannot REALLY update your character.
To level up you have to transfer all additions to character builder. Save. Login to i4e site. Upload new file. Go back to iPad. Load new character. Make all new additions that didn't import in. Rinse and repeat.
Even though character was loaded. I kept referring to the printed sheet for hit and damage calculations as they were not there.
Despite what the description says, you cannot update your character online ( ddi subscription required ). I have subscription and you cannot do it.
It would be easier to take a picture of your printed character sheet and use that for reference. But you can't edit it you say? Yeah neither can this app. I'd rather use pictures. At least I get the familiar layout. I could even take shots of individual power cards. And flick through those. Brilliant!
Over all grade. D+

Import from NEW character builder on dndi site / account
My solution... Load the dndi character builder on computer and use teleport app or another remote viewer to view screen.
Wait for silverlight functionality on iPad in spring 2011
Great for play, tons of prep.
I think this app provides the fastest most convenient way to play the game when sitting down at the table. Keeping track of power uses, HP, Healing Surges etc is cake using this app. Down side... it is only useful if you invested hours into filling out characters and powers in advance. Hopefully, future versions will have the powers included and have more convenient methods for wizards to keep track of prepared spells versus just known spells. You can do it yourself with the app as it is (i.e. Hide used powers and mark the unprepared spells as used) but it would be easier if you were prompted every time you took an extended rest. Overall, worth the five bucks.
Worth the money!
At first I was skeptical of using my iPad for my character sheet. I took a chance and bought this and now I don't even bother printing out my characters any more. I imported my character through the website and downloaded them into the app. It took a little time to get all of the correct data in place, but now that it's done, I wouldn't ever use a pen and paper character sheet again.
Keep up the great work!
